Discover Sophie & Paul's universe...

At the occasion of their visit to France, the team of HUMAN WOMAN, one of our Japanese partners, captured Jack Gomme's founders Sophie and Paul's personal space, and sat down with the couple for an interview. Two wooden doors separate their home from Paul's creative studio. There are just a few seconds between the numerous stacks of fabric rolls and mountains of rivets and the spacious loft bathing in sunlight thanks to the glass roof and doors.

The decoration is a unique blend of design objects, antique furniture, travel souvenirs and works by artists close to the couple. In the living room you can find a painting by Robert Droulers, Paul's father and painter member of the School of Paris. Some ceramics by Simeon, the couple's son, add warmth to the kitchen counter. In the bedroom, a table by Paul tweaks the space with its anticonformist angles, and a wooden carousel pig from the 19th century brings a touch of humor and originality into the space, that we recognize from the couple.

The home of Sophie & Paul reflects their love for art and culture, design, materials and colors, and especially for their loved ones and for life... so very Jack Gomme!

THE CONCEPT

Every season, as an extra besides the Jack Gomme collection, Sophie Renier will present her selection of design objects and accessories "coup de coeur" in the new boutique at 13 rue Bréa in Paris. The shop window will be the place of creative expression of photographers, graphic designers or sculptors, whom Sophie and Paul are fond of. To push the door of the shop is to dive into the creative world of the couple. It's to exchange, to create a link. It's discovering the human behind the object.
For these first artistic collaborations, the two creatives who expose their work, are Marie Pichereau and Romain Forquy. Here is a little preview and of course you are very welcome to discover their creations in the shop at 13 rue Bréa in Paris.

MARIE PICHEREAU

Visual artist, trained at the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Tours, Marie Pichereau lives and works in Paris. Her work consists mainly of installations mixing different techniques and materials. Her work is all about about space and landscape. She has participated in exhibitions in Tours, Paris, Shanghai. For her first collaboration with Jack Gomme, we decided to select pieces of her previous works (Rosa Celesta and Voyage to the Ice Age) and rehabilitate them for the shop windows. The paper is the main element and is ideal for this idea of lightness that the bags of Jack Gomme are known for. It presents a winter and crystalline landscape for this Christmas period. A white mountain surrounded by a line of birds, redesigning the space of the windows and highlighting the darker and metallic materials and colors of the Fal Winter collection.

ROMAIN FORQUY

Fashion and portrait photographer Romain Forquy also works on more documentary style personal projects. The photograph exhibited in the rue Bréa shop is the result of observations whilst on a journey to Florence. His eye is often attracted, and his work inspired, by raw textures and materials, as is the case here with the metal frame of a bicycle contrasting with the monumental sheet of tarpaulin covering a worksite.
Romain Forquy lives in London.

Last week we celebrated the opening with a festive event that even included the first snowflakes of the season! Together with our guests, dear friends, families and clients we had a wonderful evening. Thank you to everyone that came out to celebrate with us!

Here are a few memories of the evening. If you like, you can find more photos on our Facebook page. Of course you are  most welcome to visit our new shop at13 rue Bréa in Paris.

Our new boutique in Paris

It all began in 1999 in the heart of Paris with the rue Montmartre, near the joyous tumult of the Parisian Halles. In 2013, followed by the Marais boutique and its many art galleries that proudly surround the rue Saint-Claude.

For their third shop, Sophie Renier and Paul Droulers decided to cross the Seine to settle in the 6th arrondissement. A few meters from Henri Sauvage's stepped building, a new Jack Gomme sign now stands at 13 rue Bréa, between the historic breweries and the Jardin du Luxembourg.

THE BOUTIQUE

Sophie Renier and Paul Droulers have designed and created this space in line with their image: an elegant, refined and bright place, enhanced by references to cubism and midcentury modern art. Designed by Paul Droulers, the white wood, honey and ebony furniture with natural slices warms the white walls and greige soil. The receding angles of the custom furniture personalize and invigorate the volumes of the space. Paul plays with trapezoidal shapes by drawing sharp and graphic lines. It intelligently exploits space, subtly filling voids with colorblocking and cubes.

Just like presentation stands, open hanging boxes showcase the Jack Gomme bags, in perfect harmony with the decor: an elegant mix of design objects and artwork by artists close to the couple. Among other things, there is a vintage porthole mirror, a linocut by Robert Droulers, painter and Paul's father, an imposing poster in bright colors by graphic designer Marc Borgers and a canvas by artist Jeannie Weissglass.

Outside, the large, fully glazed façade attracts curious eyes and reveals Jack Gomme creations, staged on a low platform reminiscent of a small theater.

THE CONCEPT

The designers of Jack Gomme wanted to give a new dimension to this project. From their many trips to Japan where the brand already has 5 stores, they always come back seduced by Japanese design and lifestyle. From their trips at sea, they come back inspired, filled with memories that they want to share with their customers: an object, a material, a landscape, a scent...

Each season, among the collection of Jack Gomme bags, Sophie Renier will present in this shop a selection of her favorite design objects and accessories. The shopwindow will be the place of artistic expression of photographers, graphic designers or sculptors, that the couple likes.

Pushing the door of 13 rue Bréa is to dive into the creative world of Sophie Renier and Paul Droulers. It means to share, exchange and to create a connection. It's discovering the human behind the object. Welcome, bienvenue.
